Frank Lampard Has Dropped Out Of The Running For The Norwich Job, Paving The Way For Dean Smith To Emerge As The Prime Contender
Lampard had held talks with the Canaries about replacing Daniel Farke, but is no longer a candidate. Sources close to the managerial situation at Carrow Road have told Sportsmail he no longer wants to be considered.
The development could now see Smith, who was only sacked by Aston Villa last week, emerge as the top target for Norwich.
Norwich are currently 20th in the Premier League table, level on points with Newcastle on a tally of five but sit in last place due to their goal difference.
Lampard has been out of work since January, when Chelsea sacked him and brought in Thomas Tuchel at Stamford Bridge.
But his withdrawal of interest in the post at Carrow Road means the path seems to be clear for Smith to make a quick comeback into the Premier League.
Smith departed Villa last Sunday with the club losing five Premier League matches in a row and slumping to 15th in the standings. Steven Gerrard has left Rangers to replace him at Villa Park.
But in his three years at his boyhood club, Smith got Villa out of the Championship and established them as a Premier League outfit.
