Shawn Mendes Releases Emotional Ballad ‘It’ll Be Okay’ Two Weeks After Camila Cabello Breakup
Canadian singer and songwriter, Shawn Mendes on Wednesday December 1, released an emotional breakup ballad titled “It’ll Be Okay”.
The ballad was released exactly two weeks after he and singer girlfriend, Camila Cabello ended their relationship after more than two years of dating.
Mendes detailed the end of a turbulent relationship in the soft, piano-backed melancholic track. He sang;
“The future we dreamed of is fading to black.”
In the chorus, however, he transitions into a hopeful attitude of healing and acceptance as he repeatedly sings, “it’ll be okay.”
“If you tell me you’re leaving / I’ll make it easy / It’ll be okay / If we can’t stop the bleeding. We don’t have to fix it / We don’t have to stay / I will love you either way.”
The singer first announced the song’s release on Tuesday November 30, teasing lyrics that said, “Are we gonna make it? / Is this gonna hurt?”
On the morning of the song’s release day, Mendes shared a photo of a sun illuminating a beach with an orange glow to social media.
Camila and Mendes announced their split in a joint statement shared to social media on November 17. The singers were friends for several years before they started dating in July 2019.
